The Media & You

We take a look at how the media shapes our association and understanding of the LGBTQIA+ community. Whether it be through books, TV shows, movies, or any type of story we hear as a child, those early representations (or lack thereof) really do shape the way we see things.

In the spirit of the IDAHOBIT campaign, KOS Magazine is publishing a series of pieces that celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community and spread awareness on how to fight discrimination. For those in lockdown, many have found creative and innovative ways to channel isolation boredom into proactive ways to engage with different communities. For Brisbane based writer and editor Em Readman, turning her embroidery hobby into a vehicle for awareness on consent and sexual violence felt like a natural transition. She chatted to us recently about her new business, Consent Patches and how they’ve impacted both her, the organisation proceeds are being donated to, and her audience online.

Apart Together - Switchboard Victoria

With marginalised communities already pushed to the fringes of society, this pandemic is affecting them in new ways that is further increasing their isolation. One organisation that aims to support one of these communities is none other than the one and only Switchboard Victoria.
